  1. Aujourd’hui on va… • Réviser le présent • Apprendre l’imparfait (en anglais et…avec les Simpson!) • Écrire des notes • Faire des exercices

  2. The Imperfect Tense!! In French, we use the imperfect tense for two purposes: • To talk about things we were doing. • To talk about how things used to be. Sounds Easy!

  3. It's not that easy! You have to form the imperfect tense in a very particular way: In the first instance, you need to find the NOUS form of the verb you are using, but in the PRESENT tense: Nous form - Present Tense

  4. Examples... Jouer (to play) nous jouONS Vendre (to sell) nous vendONS Finir (to finish) nous finissONS

  5. Okay...now what? Dispose of the NOUS Get rid of the ONS ending! nous jouONS Pay attent- diddly -ention nous vendONS nous finissONS

  6. So now, you're left with... jou vend finiss

  7. Yeah...and then? You add the following endings to match up with the following pronouns: Je Tu Il/Elle/On Nous Vous Ils/Elles -ais -ais -ait -ions -iez -aient Stem

  8. And that leaves me with...? ais Je jou ais Tu attend ait Il finiss ions Nous regard iez Vous vend aient Ils/Elles finiss

  9. ÊTRE • This is the only irregular verb in the IMPERFECT tense. • J’étais • Tu étais • Il/elle/on était • Nous étions • Vous étiez • Ils/elles étaient
