  2. ‘Tere’ Who am I ? • Gerry Murphy/Gearóid Ó Murchú • Teacher from Dundalk in Ireland • Headmaster of Primary School • 450 pupils (4 - 13 years old) • Headmaster of Summer School • 400 pupils (13 - 18 years old) • M.Sc in Computer Applications for Education (1996 - 1999) • Thank you for the invitation to share some of my experience with you, my Estonian colleagues in education - I hope our exchange of ideas will be mutually beneficial

  3. Schools IT 2000 • Launched November ‘97 • £50M plan for primary and post-primary schools • includes £10M from National Telecommunications provider • free internet connection • 1 hour per day Internet access for 2 years • 1 PC per school

  5. Current Status • TII • strand 1 completed • all schools have Internet capability • 100% of schools have Internet access • TSI • 38,000 teachers Phases I & 2 training • SSI • ScoilNet launched - www.scoilnet.ie • Special Projects have been launched

Why am I here in Estonia? • To facilitate ‘Programme for Leading the Integration of ICT in Education’ • my job is not to dictate but rather to provide assistance for you in developing you as team leaders in your schools and country • you will dictate the pace and direction of the next two days

  8. Being here = Responsibility • The success of Phare ISE being implemented in many schools, will largely depend on the efforts of teacher leaders • Just-In-Time (JIT) In-service Training must create critical mass in total teacher population

  9. Hoped for National Outcomes • “Excellent course - giving practical hands-on experience, also confidence and encouragement to use the materials in classroom.
