  2. New York City • 8:46 am • Hijackers crash Flight 11 • Into North Tower 93-99 Second attack, Flight 117 hits South Tower @ 9:03 am 9:08 am FAA bans all fights to and from New York City.

The President Reacts • President Bush is visiting a school in Florida. • At 8:50 Bush is told of the first attack on the World Trade Center. • 9:31 - President • Bush addresses • the nation: • 9:37 – Flight 77 • crashes into the • Pentagon. • 9:41 – First time in U.S. history, all flights are grounded, more than 4,000.

  4. Destruction Continues A fourth plane is hijacked, on its way to Washington, DC. 9:45 – U.S. Capitol building is evacuated. 9:59 – The South Tower collapses in New York.

  5. Flight 93 • Passengers use cell phones to report a fourth hijacking over Pennsylvania. • They attack the cockpit and force the plane down.

  6. North Tower Falls • 10:28 am - North Tower collapses • Only the • lobby stood.

  7. Impact of 9/11 Terror • - 2,918 citizens from 115 countries died. • - 26 days later - U.S. invaded Afghanistan to capture Osama Bin Laden and terror group Al Qaeda. • - 1,960 Americans • killed in the war. • -Bin Laden killed • May 1, 2011
