  1. OMG! Algebra is easy. First, an “expression” is just a number sentence. For example, if you wanted to buy the Wii games and you didn’t know how much these games cost you could show this “number expression” by writing 3 x _________ . The blank is there because it’s what you don’t know, the cost of each game. With algebra, instead of a blank you put a letter. It could be any letter X, Z, G… Usually the letter is the first letter of the thing you talking about. So to write an algebraic expression you would write: 3 x C. 3 because you want 3 games and C because you don’t know the Cost of each game.

  2. Mrs. Sweetland gives 3 bonus points for each extra-credit problem correctly completed. If b stands for the number of extra-credit problems correctly completed, which expression is equal to the total number of bonus points? • a. b x 3 b. b + 3 • c. b ÷ 3 d. b - 3 • e. 3 > b

  3. Find the value of y. x - y = y x = 10 • A. 32 • B. 16 • C. 4 • D. 5 • E. 2

  4. You know how to find the sum of the angles of a polygon. The sum of the angles for a triangle (3 sides) is 180. The sum of the angles of a quadrilateral (4 sides) is 360. The sum of the angles of a pentagon (5 sides) is 540. If “S” is the amount of sides, which expression can be used to illustrate this way of finding the sum of the angles of any polygon. • A. (S – 2) * 180 • B. S + (2 + 180) • C. 180 * S • D. (360 x 2) 45 90 45 90 45 You add up the angles and the sum for any triangle is 180 45 180

  5. 120 90 90 100 100 90 90 110 You add up the angles and the sum for any square or rectangle or 4 sided figure and the sum is 380 110 You add up the angles and the sum for any 5 sided figure and the sum is 540 90 110 90 110 90 100 90 100 360 120 540

  6. 180 360 540

  7. First you have to add the numbers that you already have to each other. Then you have to figure out how to get the last 2 numbers. • 444 • 122 50 + 65 How much fencing is needed to go around the perimeter of this yard? C. 155 155 • 456 • 789 150 +75 225 65 You would need 855ft. Of fence to cover the outside. C.225 155 + 225 + 260 + 125 + 100 + 35 A. 100 B. 200 100 225 + 35 75 C.260 + 50 260 125 885

  8. How much sod is needed to cover this yard?

  9. One angle of a RIGHT triangle is 30 degrees. Which expression shows how to find the measure of the third angle? ??? 30 90 • A. 3* 180=A • 3 * 90 + 60=A • (360 / 3) - 90 • D. 180 – 90 – 30=A

  10. Thanksgiving Parade Calvin’s little brother jumped up and down. “Here they come!” shouted Calvin. Around the corner came the Thanksgiving Day Parade. Half of the people were on floats; 25% were in marching bands; clowns made up 1/8; tv stars made up 1/16; and there were 10 city officials, or 1/16. How many people were in the parade, and how many were in each group? 50% .50 ½
