  1. Annelida- WormsExample – Oligochetes (Earthworms); Leeches; Polychaetes (marine)Worms with segmented (ringlike) bodies that have true coelom that is lined with tissue from mesoderm.

  3. Environment Oligochaetes - Soil or Fresh Water Leeches - Tropical environments Polychaetes – Salt Water Food Source Filter Feeders Carnivorous - two sharp jaws used to attack

  4. External Maintaining Homeostasis – Internal • Well developed nervous system. • Brain • Several nerve cords • BEST sense organs of worms • Closed Circulatory System • Breathe thru gills • 2 kinds of waste • Digestive- passes thru anus • Cellular- nitrogen containing waste eliminated by nephridia.

  5. Movement • 2 Major groups of body muscles form hydrostatic skeleton. • Longitudinal (from front to rear) • Circular(wrap around each body segment)

  6. Reproduction • Sexually • Some use EXTERNAL fertiliziation. • Hermaphorditic (leeches)-producing both sperm and egg as needed. Worms attach to each other, exchange sperm. When eggs are ready, a citellum secrete mucus and fertilization takes place.

  7. Evolutionary Milestone • Segmented Body
