Burr challenges Hamilton to a duel and kills him. • Later, Burr is disgraced after he is charge with trying to overthrow Jefferson to become King USA

Embargo Act • Britain and French kept stealing U.S. ships, goods, and sailors. • Jefferson declare an embargo on trade with all foreign nations. • Meant to hurt Britain and France, but hurts USA more. • Embargo: ban on trade
Louisiana Purchase • Napoleon, Emperor of France offered to sell the Louisiana Territory to USA. • Louisiana Territory: all lands drained by Mississippi River • Think: Did Jefferson think he had the power to buy it? Why? • Louis and Clark: explorers sent by Jefferson to map newly bought territory.
