  2. The gray sea, and the long black land;

  3. And the yellow half-moon large and low;

  4. And the small little waves that leap;

  5. In fiery ringlets from the sleep,

  6. As I gain the cove with pushing prow,

  7. And quench its speed I’ the slushy sand.

  8. Then a mile of warm sea-sented beach;

  9. Three fields to cross till a farm appers.

  10. A tap at the pane , the sharp scratch

  11. And blue spurt of a lighted match

  12. And a voice less loud, through its joys and fears

  13. Than the two hearts beating each to each !
