  22. Cost Effectiveness (Dark Net even cheaper than a Chocolate) • One Time Setup • Wireless Access points with Antenna = 25000 x 2 = Rs. 50,000 • Cache server with UPS = Rs. 1,25,000 • Total = Rs 1,75,000 • Recurring Cost (per year) • Broadband @ Internet Access point = Rs. 1,00,000 • Power = Rs. 50,000 • Total = Rs. 1,50,000 • User Cost (per day) • Cost = 82 paise /day • Assuming 500 users with 2 Mbps broadband distribution with maximum 50 users (10%) connecting in a similar time

  23. Applications • Get connected to the digital world, get daily news, mails etc. • People in rural community like farmers, weavers etc – get good • income by selling their crops, handicrafts etc with Internet • information. • If a villager is facing a problem in his village, he could even just • make a e-mail complaint directly to the president of India! Presentation for the TechTop National Innovation Contest 2010

  24. Challenges and Lessons Learnt • Challenges • Infrastructure, transportation, and weather- related barriers • Developing locally relevant applications to generate demand for DarkNet • End-users having limited literacy • Lessons Learnt • Achieving scale is crucial in a lower margin market • Building a strong ecosystem of partnerships Presentation for the TechTop National Innovation Contest 2010

  25. Conclusion • Our product is targeted mainly for the lower pyramid of Indian triangle. • They are bulk in population. • Communication sector is one major sector that India lacks. • Our plan is to uplift dark side of rural India. • It has a high social impact. • Our product has lot of scope and good business model. • The idea is very innovative, simple to build, maintain ,cost effective and energy efficient
