Story Elements. What makes a good story?. A good story has certain common elements that we will soon see. When you see a word highlighted in red , mark it on your vocabulary sheets. You will be referring to these words over and over again throughout this year. Characters.

  2. What makes a good story? A good story has certain common elements that we will soon see. When you see a word highlighted in red, mark it on your vocabulary sheets. You will be referring to these words over and over again throughout this year.

  3. Characters • Protagonist – the main character (usually the good guy….but it doesn’t have to be) • Antagonist - the ones who come against the main character (usually the bad guy…but it doesn’t have to be

  4. Conflict – the problem

  5. Point of view - who is telling the story 1st person - I tell my own story 3rd person - I tell a story about someone else “Sandy went to her room and saw the gift that her mother bought for her. She was so excited about it.” “I went to my room and saw the gift my mom bought for me. I was so excited about it!”

  6. Two types of stories Narrative - the point is to tell a story; to entertain Expository - the point is to explain an idea; to inform

  7. Unit 1 – “Change” We will be writing and reading both narratives and expository pieces throughout this unit. Once we read several examples, we will be writing our own. • The adventure is ready to begin!!!
