January reflection By Cassie M Cole
learning to make rose buds Making rose buds are really hard to do in my open it took me like 4 hours of just working to make them look even kind of right. I was really mad when I could not make them look right so I had to stop and relax for a while before I could try again. My mentor and I working.
Royal Frosting????? My mentor called me and said that we were going to be making royal frosting and start learning to make roses. I had no clue what that was so I had to start looking up what it was, and how it was made. Royal frosting roses.
Oh Now I Get It!! Royal frosting is just egg whites water, and powdered sugar. Royal icing is a kind of icing that dries hard so you can make flowers or other designs ahead of time like for a wedding cake. It’s a little hard to see but these are drop flowers. 190 drop flowers
trying to find a new icing tip My favorite type of flower is a drop flower, and the tip I have is a 115 and its make really really small flowers, and I needed a bigger tip for my cake. I went to 5 different stores before I just gave up and order because no one just have a 190 drop flower in the cake section of any store. This is what a size 190 drop flower looks like.
Learning A New Technique When I first started to make roses I would try to do what my mentor was doing, but I could not. My mentor said its like making a upside down U. I tried and tried over and over and could not do it until I tried with royal icing.
Things I Have Done This Month. I have learned to make roses, rose buds , and royal frosting. These types of flowers and frosting are very often used. I also worked on righting in cursive,( which is not very easy.) I also made my mother a birthday cake.
Things I struggled With. • I really struggled with learning how to do roses, and rose buds. • I also really struggled righting in cursive because you can’t stop you have to keep the same presser the whole time and if you mess you there is no going back.
