“Partners In Professionalism” • Ohio Medical Board’s innovative educational outreach project teaching medical students about the role of the Medical Board • Introduces professionalism & the responsibilities of medical licensure to those in training • Participation in program required as part of Clinical Community Experience rotation for first year medical students at OU-COM
Ohio Medical Board Overview 12 Board members; Board meets monthly Board meetings & deliberations held in public session Over 61,000 licensees; 40,000 are MDs and DOs $8.6 million FY10 operating budget funded through licensing & renewal fees Board receives no money from Ohio’s general revenue fund Agency supports 87 full-time positions

Ohio Medical Board Strategic Plan Collaboration Engage in Partnerships with Stakeholders and Others to Leverage Available Resources and Improve Healthcare in Ohio We can protect the public by “building a better licensee” through public and private sector partnerships with the legislature, professional schools, associations, media, state agencies, and other stakeholders. Our efforts will be designed to instill a unique sense of ethics and professionalism in licensees that puts them on notice regarding the Board’s expectations as a regulatory body. We can also develop, analyze, and share data documenting trends impacting the cost, quality, or availability of healthcare in Ohio with stakeholders through a communications plan designed to promote the Board’s mission of protecting the public.

0 Part 2A Day at the Medical Board Students are assigned their field trip day to attend a monthly meeting of the Medical Board The week before the Board meeting, Board staff e-mails a summary of the agenda topics to the students Videoconference held with the students on Monday before the Board meeting to explain travel logistics and the topics/cases on the Board meeting agenda
