Maryland Department of Juvenile Services Mission: • By law, DJS is a child-serving agency responsible for assessing the individual needs of referred youth and providing intake, detention, probation, commitment, and after-care services. • DJS collaborates with youth, families, schools, community partners, law enforcement, and other public agencies to coordinate services and resources to contribute to safer communities.

Facility Characteristics: For Proposed Female Detention Center • One story, self-contained building. • Built to look like a school. • 48-bed facility. • Includes space for medical, educational, dietary and counseling services. • Indoor and outdoor recreational space. • Detention-grade construction.

  6. Economic Impact Source: Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development • The proposed female detention center would create an estimated total of $83.7 million worth of construction impacts. • $66.2 million in economic impact per calendar year starting in 2017.
