  2. Focus on the information need. • Select & narrow a topic. • Write an “essential question.” • Which? Why? Should? How? • Has more than one answer or interpretation • Your answer can be supported by research. • Formulate smaller, factual questions. • These will help you answer the larger, essential question.

  3. Examples • Essential questions • How can we stop global warming? • Should we have a national health care plan? • Which career would be best for you? • Why is Shakespeare considered the greatest writer in the English language? • Factual questions • What is global warming? • What is the average salary for an auto mechanic?

  4. Investigate resources to look for the answers. • Print – books, newspapers, magazines, pamphlets, etc. • Online – databases, websites • People – interview experts, authorities, experienced people

  5. Note and evaluate the facts. • Skim resources. • Read closely and take notes in your own words. • Evaluate the information. • Select the most appropriate information. • Include all points of view. • Keep track of your resources.

  6. Develop information into knowledge for presentation. • Decide on the format for your presentation – essay, powerpoint, etc. • Organize your information. • Develop your answers – write, illustrate, graph, etc. Use your research to formulate your answers. Use SPECIFIC details. • Credit your resources with internal citations, bibliography or works cited page.

  7. Score your presentation and search process. • Evaluate your product using established criteria. • Reflect on your searching experience. • Make recommendations for future research.

  8. Practice the F.I.N.D.S. process… • Select a partner. • Select one of the topics given or create your own. • Follow the F.I.N.D.S. steps and create a POSTER using Microsoft Word. • Include EACH step on the poster. Click HERE for a sample.
