The primary purpose of schooling: The movie presents a new motivating way in teaching poetry to keep the students engaged to the content and change the traditional curriculum practically. By Mr. Keating
Nature of Human Being • Mr. Keating’s point of view: • ( We all human being , have our hair cut, full of hormones). • There was no racism, no differentiations. • Gender: • Only boys in the schools • Girls attendance is prohibited. • Social class: • Students belong to high class families. • Live in boarding school. • I do not agree with the media representations of human nature in some this film. • (students’ freedom, not multiracial classes)
Problematic Characters: • Todd: • He feels that everything inside him is worthless and embarrassing • Always alone • Neil: • He wanted to be an actor while his father refused. • He committed suicide.
Epistemology: • Knowledge represented through comparing traditional way of teaching to a new way that meets the students’ needs and interests. • Textbooks • Receiving • Lecturing/ receiving the info/ regular assignments (due date, punishment if late). • The Truths • discovered not created and separated from fiction since they were supported by evidences, such as telling real stories and showing pictures. • Fiction: going to the cave and imagining while reading poetries. • The way Mr. Keating teach. • Relative truth: Not measurable, different from one to another.
Pedagogy: • The students applied what they learned outside of the schools (think of yourself) • Negative: (Cameron) fell in love. • Positive: (Neil) to be an actor • They were active • It seems that the they were engaged to the class and benefited from it. classroom management In the past classes; organized class, but undesirable Mr. Keating’s class; funny friendly and desirable.
