  1. MEASUREMENT

  2. Nuts and Bolts Achievement Standard: AS91030 Measurement (1.5) Type of Assessment: Internal (3 credits) Assessment Date: Thursday 27 March Number of Teaching Lessons: 16

  3. What do you know?? Class Mindmap

  4. Achievement • You need to apply measurement in solving problems. • This could involve one or more of: • using a range of methods when solving problems (at least three different methods) • demonstrating knowledge of measurement concepts and terms • communicating solutions which would usually require only one or two steps. • Problems are situations that provide opportunities to apply knowledge or understanding of mathematical concepts. The situation will be set in a real-life or mathematical context. • Measurements include the use of standard international metric units for length, area, capacity, mass, temperature, and time. • Derived measures include density, speed and other rates such as unit cost or fuel consumption. • Assessment may include: • converting between metric units, using decimals • deducing and using formulae to find the perimeters and areas of polygons, and volumes of prisms • finding the perimeters and areas of circles and composite shapes and the volumes and surface areas of prisms , including cylinders • applying the relationships between units in the metric system, including the units for measuring different attributes and derived measures • calculating volumes and surface areas, including prisms, pyramids, cones, and spheres, using formulae.

  5. Achievement with merit • Make sure that you can meet the criteria for achievement • You need to apply measurement in solving problems using relational thinking. • This could involve one or more of: • selecting and carrying out a logical sequence of steps • connecting different concepts and representations • demonstrating understanding of concepts • forming and using a model • relating findings to a context • communicating thinking using appropriate mathematical statements. • Achievement with excellence • Make sure that you can meet the criteria for merit • You need to apply measurement in solving problems using extended abstract thinking. • This could involve one or more of: • devising a strategy to investigate or solve a problem • identifying relevant concepts in context • developing a chain of logical reasoning, or proof • forming a generalisation • using correct mathematical statements • communicating mathematical insight

  6. Pre-test You will have 25 minutes to complete the pre-test. You will require a calculator, ruler and protractor to complete.
