  2. Summary • City of Berkley did a study found that 49.4% of favorite music videos contained references to smoking or tobacco use. (Machen, 2010). • 79 of the top played songs in the four Bay Area radio stations found 51.3% had related smoking imagery in their music videos. (Machen, 2010). • Worries of potential impacts on youth related to watching their favorite music artist smoking and use of imagery to trigger tobacco use. • Dartmouth University found that adolescents who saw the highest amount of smoking in movies were 3x’s more likely to start smoking. (Machen, 2010).
