Steering Committee:rotation schedule • Seven representatives • Past, present and future meeting hosts • 4 reps from each major geographical region • Secretariat is non-rotating ex-officio member • Rotating body; < 3 members replaced yearly • Members selected at annual meetings by full WG membership • 3-year terms with option to complete 2nd term if WG membership agrees 4th Meeting of the Washington Group on Disability Statistics
Steering Committee:rotation schedule • First committee will have terms varying from 1-3 years • When electing new member, a balanced regional representation will be sought • Africa / Middle East • North / South America • Asia / Pacific • Europe • Steering committee will select committee chair 4th Meeting of the Washington Group on Disability Statistics
Steering committee • Refer to handout (SC rotation schedule) • The U.S. filled a temporary position for the initial SC (for continuity) and will rotate off • Brazil will rotate into position of current meeting host • Canada (past meeting host) will rotate off • We need to select new SC member, trying to maintain a balanced regional representation 4th Meeting of the Washington Group on Disability Statistics
Long-range work plan • At the 3rd meeting, the steering committee was charged with developing a long-range work plan and timeline for implementation of the work plan to facilitate WG activities • A draft of the plan was developed by the SC for review at this meeting (refer to handout) 4th Meeting of the Washington Group on Disability Statistics
Long-range work plan • In addition to the annual meetings, 5 categories of activity are proposed: • Develop and implement general disability measure (short set) • Develop and implement extended measurement sets • Methodological issues and research • Regional meetings (WB-DGF) • Technical Assistance (WB-DGF) 4th Meeting of the Washington Group on Disability Statistics
Develop and implement general disability measure (short set) • Ongoing • Activities proposed through September 2007 • Activities include selecting the short set/s of measures; developing a plan for implementation; pre-testing; developing training materials; preparing translations; enumerator training; implementing the measure in targeted countries; and dissemination of the measure 4th Meeting of the Washington Group on Disability Statistics
Develop and implement extended measurement sets • Ongoing • Activities proposed through September of 2008 • Activities similar to those for developing and implementing the short set/s 4th Meeting of the Washington Group on Disability Statistics
Methodological issues and research • This work is concurrent with development of short and extended questions sets • For this meeting and 2005, discussion of full population coverage has been proposed • For 2006, discussion of the use of combined survey data and administrative data has been proposed 4th Meeting of the Washington Group on Disability Statistics
Regional meetings / Technical Assistance (WB-DGF) • Regional meetings and provision of technical assistance are supported via the World Bank Development Grant Facility • Planning for the use of these funds for these purposes will take place at this meeting • Activities proposed through September of 2006 based on time frame of DGF • There may be an opportunity for renewal of the DGF and extension of these activities 4th Meeting of the Washington Group on Disability Statistics

Workgroup format • Workgroups formed each time a major work topic is agreed upon at annual meetings • Roughly 3-4 workgroups will exist at any point in time • When the task is completed the group will disband 4th Meeting of the Washington Group on Disability Statistics
Workgroup format • Responsible for preparing / presenting position papers at annual meetings • Leaders will solicit comments on position papers from the full WG membership via the secretariat • Leaders will provide a brief, semi-annual report of progress to the secretariat 4th Meeting of the Washington Group on Disability Statistics
