An Introduction TO hitler • Leader of the Nazi Party In Germany during the 20th Century • Responsible for the death of 6 million Jews • Controversial leadership- charismatic vibe and strict measures that were met with dissent
Text 1 http://www.notablebiographies.com/He-Ho/Hitler-Adolf.html
Text 1- Form • Detailed evaluation of Hitler’s life in chronological order -Childhood, early Nazi Years, Pre war and war, death • Third person point of view offering very little personal statements about Hitler • A simple summary of the key events of Hitler’s Life (short and sweet)
Text 1- FunctioN • Subtly admires Hitler’s capability but condemns his decisions and measures • Offers a reason for Hitler’s interest in anti- semitism and the foundings of the Nazi Party
Text 1- Features • Paints a vivid image of how Hitler felt when he knew the war was going to end in defeat
Text 2 • http://kidsfront.com/biography/adolf_hitler_biography.html
Text 2- Form • Similar to text 1, goes on about his life in chronological order • Third person point of view, very general when describing his actions • Elaborates more on his childhood and military plans
Text 2- function • Examines his life from different perspectives - “Serious errors”, “Brave soldier”
Text 2- Features • Some Trivial happenings in his life - “In 1918, just before the war ended, he was caught in a cloud of gas released by English soldiers and was overcome”
Differences • Text 1 only states that he despised Jews while Text 2 gives more explanations for this hatred (due to his failed quest for fame) • Text 1 describes Hitler’s last days in greater emotion and depth but Text 2 simply jumps to the fact that he committed suicide • This gives us a better idea of how Hitler felt nearing the end of the war and his death • Text 2 is less conscise than Text 1
Our View • Hitler’s controversial style of leadership is known for its harsh measures but not how he stabilised Germany and brought glory back to its pride • Disgust of his mass killings, too radical and extreme • But, He was a disciplined leader that managed to gain respect from people • Smart but not trustworthy and scheming
