No Donuts (sleeves OK) • “ Are your players properly equipted and your equipment legal?”

Canal Youth Umpires Rules Training Rule 1 Notes • 1.11 - Pitcher no white sleeve and no pitching sleeves in baseball • No metal cleats • No jewelry except for medical • No casts • 1.12 baseball catchers with catcher mitt – no requirement in SB • 1.15 – Pitchers glove not white or gray (or yellow in SB) • 1.16 - Helmets with stickers • 1.17 – Catchers – throat guards, no skull caps, wear helmets in warmups

Canal Youth Umpires Rules Training Rule 2 Notes • Bench or Dugout – Not for Scorekeepers • Catch – • Secure Possession • Voluntary Release • Foul Tip - Sharp/Directly to Hands of Catcher then caught • Strike - Any part of ball goes through any part of the strike zone • Strike Zone - Armpits to top of knees in normal stance

6. Canal Youth Umpires Rules Training Rule 2 Notes • Infield Fly • Less than 2 outs • Runners at first/second or bases loaded • Ball able to be caught by infielder with reasonable effort • Fly ball with ascernable arc – no bunt • Fair Ball • Runners can advance at own risk • Force play if off

7. Canal Youth Umpires Rules Training Rule 2 Notes • Crow Hop – Steps/Drags/Hops then replants when pitching • Illegal pitch • Dropped Ball - softball pitcher – ball is still live

Canal Youth Umpires Rules Training Rule 3 Notes • Continuous Batting Order = Free Subs • 3.08 – If pitcher throws warmup – they are in game • 3.09 – Manager/Coaches will not warm up pitchers • 3.10 – UIC or Game Coordinator determines playing conditions once pre game is done • 3.16 – Spectator Interference – put runners where you think they would have been. Out on fly ball interference.

Canal Youth Umpires Rules Training Rule 4 Notes • Putting Ball in Play • 4.03 – Fielders must start in fair territory (not catcher) • 4.04 – Injury – skip over in order • Late – put at end of lineup • 4.06 – Cannot make pitcher balk/illegal pitch • 4.08 – Give verbal warning to bench • 4.09 – tag up is not a force play • Must end game by touching all required bases

10. Canal Youth Umpires Rules Training Rule 4 Notes • 4.10 – 4 innings is complete game (3.5) • Between 1 and 3 innings and game is suspended • 10 run rule after 4 innings • 4.17 - cannot play with less than 9 players or no adult in dugout • 4.19 - No protests

Canal Youth Umpires Rules Training Rule 5 Notes • 5.08 – thrown ball inadvertently touches ump or coach then it’s a live ball • 5.09 – if ump interferes with catchers throw then runner goes back or out (if thrown out) • Batted ball touches runner before infielder • Ball lodged in catchers mask or gear = 1 base • 5.10 - fly ball that is caught then dead ball territory – ok as long as player remains upright.

Canal Youth Umpires Rules Training Rule 6 Notes • 6.03 – lines are part of the batters box • 6.02 – remaining in batters box • 6.05 – uncaught 3rd strike – may run anytime prior to dugout • Attempting to hit 3rd strike and hit by pitch • Ball hits bat after its dropped • Runners lane • Ball thrown from behind • Runner outside of lane • ‘reasonable’ throw is made

13. Canal Youth Umpires Rules Training Rule 6 Notes • Intentionally dropped ball if first/second or bases loaded • 6.06 – outside batters box • Batter is out and runner back if interferes with throw • On 3rd strike runner is out also • 6.07 – batting out of turn • 6.08 – HBP in strike zone • Catchers interference • Intentional Walk – Baseball Only – pitches count to pitcher

Canal Youth Umpires Rules Training Rule 7 Notes • 7.03 – if 2 on same base then lag runner is out (if tagged) • 7.05 – base awards for different plays • 1 on pitched ball • 2 on throws from field • 7.06 – Obstruction • Play being made – Dead Ball – Runner gets 1 base, all others where they would have been • Play not being made – Delayed Dead Ball – put where they belong – advance further at own risk • Catcher – must have possession

Canal Youth Umpires Rules Training Rule 7 Notes • 7.08 – Out of baseline – 3 feet of established baseline • Head first slide • Intent to run to 2B after overrunning 1B • Did not slide or attempt to avoid contact • Passes runner • Misses Home Plate then tagged • Softball Pitching Circle • Runners must make decision • Runner leaving early

Canal Youth Umpires Rules Training Rule 7 Notes • 7.09 – Interference • Batter/runner hinders play • Illegal Slide • Coach assisting runner • Runner doesn’t avoid fielder • Ball touches batter in fair territory • Leaving Early in Baseball • Not hit – Out or Return to Base • Hit – Only get value of hit or out – return all runners as far back as can to value prior to hit • No runs can score if bases loaded and infield hit/error

17. Canal Youth Umpires Rules Training Rule 8 Notes • 8.01 – Pitchers take signs from catchers • Ensure pitchers step back with correct foot • Do not have to stop in Majors/Minors from Set position • Baseball – Illegal Pitch = Ball • Softball - Hand apart / then sign / then 1-10 seconds together / then windup and pitch • No hand to mouth when in pitching circle – Ball on batter • 8.06 – allowed 2 visits to pitcher per inning, 3 per game • 1 offensive time out per inning
