The field of Social Sciences • 100: The study of past people, places, events • 200: The study of governing structures • 300: The study of mental processes and human behavior • 400: The study of the exchange of wealth • 500: The study of past cultures and how human groups have evolved, changed, and developed over time

  3. Founders and Fields • 100: He is know as the father or the field of psychology and tested the “atoms of the mind” in psychology’s first experiment • 200: He is remembered by his stress of the unconscious mind and how sexual conflicts dictate behavior • 300: Maslow expedited this field of psychology which explores human need for growth and love • 400: She was the first woman to receive a degree in psychology • 500: She was denied a degree from Harvard but is remembered for catapulting women into psychology’s field of study

Terms • 100: Psychologists view these through observation; includes running, talking, smiling, etc. • 200: Psychologists try to define and record these; includes thoughts, feelings, beliefs, etc. • 300: A way the field psychology is viewed • 400: The idea that the mind is both conscious and unconscious • 500: The “I knew it all along” phenomena; the idea that after events occur, they seem obvious

Perspectives • 100: This perspective of psych simply focuses on how we learn to act • 200: This perspective of psychology focuses on brain processes • 300: This perspective focuses on how natural selection has effected human behavior over time • 400: This perspective focuses on the biological connection of the body and mind • 500: List the four categories of fields in psychology

Random • 100: How would you describe two variables that have a definite cause and effect relationship? • 200: How would you describe two variables that have the same rate of increase and/or decrease • 300: Put the following steps of the scientific method in correct order:collect data, analyze data, hypothesize, draw conclusions • 400: The idea that humans make decisions without being aware • 500: The “new” approach to psychology that focuses on human strengths an individual well being
