  2. Dyabola: subject searches • In this demo we search the Archäologische Bibliographie (aktualisierte Version des Realkatalogs). The Zugangsverzeichnis des Deutschen Archäologischen Institutes Madrid works on the same principle • This demo uses the English version • Only one search term is allowed, but searches may be combined afterwards. See the demo: “Combining queries”

  3. textile You are looking for publications on textiles Use an English or a German term Search looks for words from the title and author

  4. This finds all titles in which textile occurs, even if it is part of a word Perform a new search via Search with textiel or only part of the term, e.g. texti Not all languages are covered this way

  5. Or use the option Subject Headings

  6. Click + at a relevant category to see the subcategories

  7. If necessary repeat this for the subcategories

  8. This way you find 746 relevant titles about textiles in various languages TIP: to find the correct subject heading(s): open a relevant publication to see which subject heading(s) it has been assigned

  9. A third option is: Search subject list only Texti This way you search for the first word of the title Always start with a capital letter

  10. Result: a list of all titles beginning with Texti

  11. Summary There are various ways to search by subject: • Search: searches for words in the title and author fields. Use word variants (textile, textiel, etc.) • Browse tree of subject heading: searches for descriptors assigned to articles. This way you find articles on your subject in all languages. However, you must be familiar with the subject to find the relevant subject trees. • Search subject list only: searches for the first words of the titles only, and may thus give a lot of noise
