Edenton-Chowan Recreation Department: Enhancing Community Engagement through Sports and Leisure Activities

The Edenton-Chowan Recreation Department provides a positive, fun, and safe environment for Chowan County residents to participate in team and individual athletic and leisure activities year-round. We also offer various programs, such as Operation Santa, After-School Plus, and Community Service and Restitution. Our partnerships with local organizations and businesses play a vital role in fulfilling our mission.

  2. OUR MISSION The Edenton-Chowan Recreation Department provides an opportunity for all Chowan County residents to participate in athletic and leisure activities in a positive, fun and safe environment.   Team and individual activities are offered   year-round for both youths and adults.

Additional Programs Operation Santa: serving 300+ children in Chowan County annually (Funded by community support and donations) After-School Plus: serving 33-35 students per year since 1995 Community Service and Restitution: averaging 25-30 per year since 1995 (Funded by Juvenile Justice and Crime Prevention Council Grant) Cubbies Water Buddies: serving all 2nd graders at White Oak School (Funded by sponsorships in 2016; applied for Chowan Hospital Community Benefits Grant for 2017) Father-Daughter and Mother-Son GLOW Dance (Partnership with WOS and DFW PTAs; event is revenue producing) SNOWBALL Dance (Partnership with CMS PBIS, event is revenue producing) Edenton Music and Water Festival (Partnership with Tourism Development Authority; various sponsors)

New in 2016-2017 Playground at NCCC Cubbies Water Buddies SNOWBALL Dance Pembroke Creek Phase I Complete Pembroke Creek Phase II Started Fisher Field: Score Huts & Concession Building painted; Practice pitching mounds moved to a safer area Earnhardt Fields: Concession Building Painted; Fencing reconfigured to allow for more parking Purser Field: Concession Building Painted; Over-seeded Fields; Sand added to spectator area to improve drainage
