Political Culture in Texas • Individualistic Subculture • Politics and Government Function as a Marketplace. • Government Exists for Utilitarian Reasons. • Government Should Be Limited. • The Primary Function of Government is to Assure Stability so that Individuals can Pursue Their Own Interests. • Traditionalistic Subculture • There is a Hierarchical Arrangement to the Political Order. • Hierarchy limits Power and Influence of the General Public and Allocates Authority to the Elite. • Public Policy Reflects the Interests of the Elite. • Family and Social Relationships Maintain this Structure.
