The Affordable, Recycling 3D Printer • Goal: • Make 3D Prototyping affordable and • accessible for K-12 (STEM) education • Zero operational cost • Create diverse plastic objects • Simple and robust product • Operationally safe • Solution: • We recycle used milk jugs to use as our printing medium. Utilizing both printing and milling processes we can produce various plastic parts. • Shredder: • Shreds Milk Jugs into usable size • Extruder: • Melts and extrudes chips into filament • Prototyping Machine: • Creates final part by printing and milling • The Future: • We proved the viability of printing with milk jugs. Phase II of this project will be to condense our process into a more classroom friendly black box. • Jake McLean, Josh Jenkins, Chad Nuxoll, Zhao Liang • Faculty Lead: Jay McCormack - Graduate Mentor: David Eld
