Rhode Island Icons • Famous Companies and Food Products: • Del’s Lemonade & Refreshments Inc. – A well loved frozen lemonade stand frequented by tourists and citizen alike • Iggy’s Doughboys and Chowder House – A Famous landmark located on known for its doughboys, clam cakes and chowder. • Autocrat - The makers of coffee syrup, used in the state drink, coffee milk, adopted in 1993 • Newport Creamery - The restaurant was founded in 1940, and serves a famous milkshake: The Awful Awful • State Icons: • State Flag: anchor and “hope” • State Flower: violet
Locations or Events: • Waterplace Park • Located in Providence and held on Saturday nights and is often attended by families and tourists • The location for the Summer Concert series hosted by 95.5 WBRU • Has been held for 20 years • Block Island Ferry • The Block Island Ferry is your fastest link to Block Island, Rhode Island. • Based in Point Judith, (Narragansett), Rhode Island, the Block island Ferry offers Traditional ferry service as well as the fastest ferry trip from the mainland on the High speed ferry service • Block Island Lighthouse • Located on Mohegan Bluffs at the southeastern corner of Block Island, Rhode Island. • Built in 1875 • It was designated a U.S. National Historic Landmark in 1997.
History of Narragansett Beach • Narragansett Town Beach is a classic New England saltwater coastal beach front that offers some of the best cleanest and accessible beach conditions for the residents and tourists in New England. Located in the center of town, the beach offers a beautiful sandy beachfront, surfing areas, and food. • This beach features the Narragansett Towers are all that remain of the Narragansett Pier Casino. The casino was constructed between 1883 and 1886, and was Narragansett's biggest attraction at the turn of the century. However, after two fires and a few hurricanes, the Towers are all that remain. Today they host a wide variety of events, and are an extremely popular venue for weddings.
Proposed Location • This mural will be located on the fourth floor in the science wing opposite rooms 441 and 442 • The section of the wall is 4’x21’
Design • Conglomeration of essential elements associated with Rhode Island • Mixed media piece with a varied color scheme • Mainly a warm color scheme fading to a natural scheme and a sky that progressively becomes more blue as it moves to the left • Lighthouse (where we will be located) in the center serves as a dividing line between realism and surrealism. • Surreal side (right) features: hot-air balloons, the Newport beach towers, Iggy’s, Autocrat coffee syrup, and Providence waterfire • The the realistic side (left)features a rocky peninsula that gives way to a sandy beach bordered by tall grass and violets, and to the left the Block Island Ferry sits in the water with the Rhode Island flag in the sky
