  2. Location • In between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. • The southernmost country in Middle America. Just northwest of Colombia. To the south of Costa Rica.

  3. History • Panama was first explored by Columbus and Balboa. • Panama owes its existence to the idea of a canal connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans to avoid the lengthy circumnavigation of South America.

  4. H.E.I.himr j • Panama has a lot of deforestation. Panama loses more than one percent of their primary forests each year. • Population growth in these forest has resulted in a decline of forest cover from 80% to less than 15%. • Panama produces bananas, shrimp, and other seafood. Other major products are sugar cane, coffee and rice.

  5. Place • Days are hot, nights much cooler; temperatures range from 90 °F during the daytime to 70 °F in the evening pretty much year-round. • Climate of Panama is tropical wet and dry • Panama has tons of rainforest and its topography is mountainous and hilly.

  6. Place part 2 • Spanish is the official language but English is widely used. • Most densely populated by the canal. Most of the population is anchored by the two cities at each end of the canal.

  7. Movement • The Panama Canal is a man-made canal with the purpose to allow ships to travel between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and not have to go around South America. • The canal cuts time drastically and has had over 700,000 ships pass through it since it was opened on August 15. 1914
