Result of GAS analyses 2003 Feb. 25 T.Tsuboyama (KEK)
Method • The helium gas was introduced to a glass tube filled with water. • About 200 liter of Helium gas (half of the tank volume) was processed. • An ion-chromatography analysis was applied to the water. (Ions are separated by using ion-exchange plastic column). The sensitivity is O(ppm).
Result • Inorganic ions were NOT found • F-, Cl -, SO3-, SO42-, NOX … • Organic acid base (-COOH?) was found. • It may come from grease of compressor/motor. • 100 ppm in the water (<10 ppm in the gas) • Charcoal filter has been installed. The puropse is to absorb organic residuals. • Another sampling will be scheduled.
Analysis of the powder • A fluorescent X-ray analysis was applied. • More or less consistent with IHI analysis. • Large amount of Be, Al and O was found. • Other elements were not significant. • In order to separate Be(OH)2 from BeO, an X-ray diffraction analysis is necessary. • However, the amount of power is not enough.
Paraffin analysis • Shimadu techno research is doing the analyses. • Detection of sulfur and chlorine in old is not of a standard procedure. • They do not guarantee <10 ppm sensitivity. • Result will come late this week.
