STAG 2013 • Implement innovative control packages to achieve WHO Roadmap targets for rabies and cystic echinococcosis • Seek funding to scale up operations • Engage more strongly with the private sector and NGOs • Foster more effective engagement and commitment among international organizations (FAO and OIE) • Build capacity and strengthen institutions • Strengthen medical–veterinary collaboration and establish cross-sectoral budget as a prerequisite

Rabies • Proof of concept and lessons learnt (BMGF/WHO projects reaching completion) • Global strategy to investment case (FAO, OIE, WHO, GARC, Sept 2014) to business plan for identified countries/country groupings • Access to canine and human vaccines and stockpile/ vaccine bank (OIE, WHO and pharma November 2014)- Develop criteria for eligibility • Collating data and presenting on WHO Global Health Observatory

(Neuro) cysticercosis • Landscape analysis of literature (May 2014) • Prevention & control • Case detection and management • Transmission dynamics model (Imperial College first draft July 2014) • Feed into informal consultation towards building a framework for control /progressive elimination (June 2014) • Donations: niclosamide, PZQ, Oxfendazole • Identify countries: (Brazil, Madagascar….) • initiate baseline mapping/ situation analysis • develop pilot strategy

Echinococcosis (CE) • Complete control handbook (September 2014) • Informal WG on Echinococcosis • Systematic review of evidence for case detection and management (to present at STAG 2014) • Generic SOP for diagnosis and treatment (December 2014) • Build capacity in peripheral health care centres for early detection and management (WHO Collaborating Centre and country) • Donations of albendazole • Select countries: (Mongolia, ….) • initiate baseline mapping and situation analysis • Develop pilot strategy

Status as of April 2014 2013 2014 2015 2020 Foodborne trematodiases • Foodborne trematodiases • 608 285 people treated in 2012 • Fascioliasis • Progressive global expansion of fascioliasis treatment with focus on AMR • 470 000 tablets of triclabendazole donated through WHO for 2014 activities globally • Clonorchiasis, opisthorchiasis and paragonimiasis • Progressive expansion of treatment activities with focus on WPR • FBT challenges • Secure PZQ for large scale treatment, as no donation in place for clonorchiasis and opisthorchiasis • Occurrence of SAEs limiting treatment implementation in 2013. Lao PDR chose not to implement
