Five Number Summary Includes: • Minimum: the lowest value in the data set • Lower Quartile (Q1): the 25th percentile • Median: the middle value; 50th percentile • Upper Quartile (Q3): the 75th percentile • Maximum: the highest value in the data set • IQR (Interquartile range): measure of how spread out the data is; Q3-Q1
Five Number Summary on the Calculator: • Enter the data into a list • 2nd MODE to Quit • Hit STAT then go over to CALC then to 1:1-VarStats then ENTER • Tell the calculator where the information is (ex. L1) then hit ENTER • Scroll down to see the Five Number Summary
Box Plots on the Calculator • Enter the data into a list • 2nd Y= then Plot 1 then hit ENTER • Highlight “On” then hit ENTER • Go down to Type, hit the over arrow to highlight the box plot then hit ENTER • Tell the calculator where the information is • Set your window (use your data to find xmin and xmax; ymin = -2, ymax = 10 • Hit GRAPH; You can hit TRACE to find the five number summary
