  2. Function • Circulatory • Many organs that pump blood to all your blood to and from bodies cells

  3. Organs in the System • Heart: pumps blood through the body • Veins: carry blood to the heart • Arteries:carry blood away from the heart

  4. Helping Other Systems • Takes nutrients away from the digestive system • Takes oxygen away from the respiratory system

  5. Diseases • Atrial Septal Defect • Opening in the wall between the right atrium and the left atrium • Blood going in and out makes a swishing sound called a heart murmur • Hole usually closes in time if not surgery needed

  6. Heart Attack • Symptoms are discomfort in center of chest and shortness of breath • A heart attack happens when blood is cut off from the heart

  7. Did You Know? • Your heart is about the size of your fist • Your heart beats an average 30 million times a year • An average three year old has two pints of blood in their body • All your blood vessels put together can circle the world 2.5 times
