Reasons For Protesting • Accusations of government corruption • Dictatorship • Human rights violations • Lack of jobs • Extreme poverty • Increased food prices/Food security • Prison Treatment
Tunisia • Tunisia is where all the protesting began • President Zine al-Abidin Ben Ali left Tunisia on January 14 • 78 people died according to the government. Human rights raised the number to 117 • The government lied about 45 to make the protests seem less intense
Egypt • Soon protesting came to Egypt • President Hosni Mubarak stepped down on February 11 after 18 days of protesting • The military may release a new government
How Egypt Effects The World • When Egypt started protesting, it encouraged the rest of the Middle East to protest. • With most of the Middle East rioting, there is very little oil getting to the rest of the world • With little oil getting to the rest of the world it is hard to live our daily lives
Yemen • President Ali Abdullah Saleh refuses to step down • 12 people have been killed since February 17 • Saleh says he will step down in 2013 • He will change laws and the government along with the election laws.
Bahrain • Seven protester have died • 10,000 protestors on February 21 • King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa is trying to discuss the protests with other parties • The other parties are nervous to talk about it • Rubber pellets are used to calm protestors
Jordan • More than 1,000 people have protested • People want prisoners released • The prisoners are treated very bad • Protestors were not harmed by police
Libya • President Muammar Gadhafi refuses to step down • He has been using the military to fight protestors • He has hired many mercenaries to kill protestors • More than 100 people have died
Libya Continued • Gadhafi blames the media for telling lies • He also blames Al-Qaeda for the protesting • Libya has split in half. The east side are protestors and the west is full of Gadhafi supporters
Natural Resources • Most of the worlds oil come from the middle east • With most of the Middle East caught up in protests, the oil production is slowing down
Geography • The protesting is taking place in the middle east • Most of the oil is in the Middle East • The Middle East happens to be where all the oil is
Religion • Most protestors are Muslim • Some protestors want Muslim leaders • Some Muslim extremist protestors get out of control when they deal with non-Muslim leaders
