GeneralObjective: • To analyze the theoretical background related to English as a Second Language. • To discuss the possible implication on ELT. • SpecificObjective: • To become familiar with the linguistic terms related to ESL. • To discuss how first language acquisition occurs. • To identify the language acquisition stages. • To analyze the different aspects of Second Language acquisition theory.

Contents: • Language Acquisition. • Glossary of Second and Primary language acquisition terms. • Useful quotes on Second Language Acquisition. • Four Stages on Second Language Acquisition. • Methodology: • To develop this course it is necessary an active methodology by using different techniques in which the participants have to perform even theorical and practical exercise to better comprehend the English language. Students are allowed to analyze their own difficulties to improve them through different activities in and out class.

  5. Activities: • Exploratory question • Class explanation • Feedback and discussion • Homework/ assignments. • Individual/ group work. • In class and out class practice. • Evaluation: • Class work and assignments 35% • Mid terms 30% • Self evaluation 5% • Final exam 30% • Total 100 %
