  3. School of Computing School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering FACULTY OF ENGINEERING The Wardennial System at Leeds • A £250k pa commitment from the University into the Student Experience and Student Support • Wardens are members of staff at the University. • Wardennial role is in addition to our ‘day jobs’. • Each hall of residence has a Warden and a team of Sub-Wardens (14 Wardens, 65 Sub-Wardens across whole portfolio). • Most Wardens live on site at the residences. • Available evenings and weekends to respond to incidents and deal with behavioural and pastoral issues with our residents.

  4. School of Computing School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering FACULTY OF ENGINEERING Linking it to the Student Experience • Ensuring an appropriate and smooth welcome to Leeds. • Facilitating an excellent standard of living – noise levels, relations with fellow students etc. • Creating opportunities for development – Hall Exec positions, sports teams, music and drama. • Working with Hall Management teams to improve facilities to support studies – PCs recently installed at Oxley, new common room facilities at Sentinel Towers.

  5. School of Computing School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering FACULTY OF ENGINEERING Our input into Student Support • Wardens are often a first point of contact for students in distress. • Can keep a close eye on vulnerable students. • All Wardens maintain links and relationships with wider University support services. • We welcome links and referrals from Schools and a joined up approach – a contact in each School who is aware? • Does/should Wardens’ evidence count for claims for mitigating circumstances?

  6. School of Computing School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering FACULTY OF ENGINEERING Contacting Wardens • Through the Accommodation Office. • Directly to the appropriate Warden: • http://accommodation.leeds.ac.uk/directory/6/residence_staff

  7. School of Computing School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering FACULTY OF ENGINEERING Student Support in Electrical Engineering • Identifying vulnerable students through UCAS forms, Equality Service. • Named contacts for these students in the SSO. • Close liaison with personal tutors. • Weekly ‘drop-in’ at SSO for any student with issues. • Sensitivity and joined-up thinking regarding attendance monitoring. • Referral and liaison with Wardens, Jeanette, Advice Centre etc etc.
