  2. Background • Since 1914, APTA has recognized bus transportation systems for their safety programs. • Previous attempts to start a rail equivalent did not advance due to concerns about the number of service providers.

  3. Benefits of the New Rail Awards • Recognition of excellence in safety/security • Industry Leading Effective Practices • Increased awareness of current issues • Continued inter-agency sharing of ideas and effective practices • Highlight safety as a core industry value

  4. Format • Categories classified by rail mode • Commuter/Intercity • Heavy rail • Light rail • A rail system can nominate for each mode that applies • Gold Award and Certificate of Merit • Successful programs presented on APTA website

  6. How it Works • Visit the Rail Safety & Security Excellence Awards Programpage on APTA.com • Review the Bus Safety & Security Excellence Awards pages as reference • Visit the Nomination page to submit your documents

  10. Attach all relevant documents • Click on the “Attach File” link to add your documents. You will have to attach each file individually. • Once attached the documents will show up under the Attachments heading at the bottom of the page. • Click on “Ok” to submit the nomination form with the attachments.
