What Part do you play: giver or taker? The Work of the Body of Christ
Which Question Do You Ask? Years ago President John Kennedy said, “Ask not what your country can do for you; but ask what you can do for your country”. • God is crying out the same question to you today • Not only about our blessed and glorious country, but are you a “giver or a taker” for Him and for each other?
The Christian Walk Whether you are paid or are a volunteer, you are an important part to the full function of God’s work on earth. The whole idea of the Christian walk is not to have some religion to run to in time of trouble; not have some mumbo-jumbo mystic somehow give you comfort in the midst of your storms. No—the Christian walk is just that…a walk with Christ!
The Christian Walk • But you can’t have a “walk with Christ”, unless He is in you. • You can’t be part of His work, unless you are a part of the Body of Christ. • Once you “let Him” inside, then He can form you and shape you as an integral part of His body…HOLY, SANCTIFIED, and FOR HIS GOOD USE
The Christian Walk • Let’s always make sure it’s not “gimme, gimme, gimme. • Let’s make sure it’s always all for God’s GLORY, GLORY, GLORY
The Body of Christ You want to be an effective giver and not a taker? Let’s take a look at Philippians 4:7-9: “And the peace of God which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things”.
The Body of Christ “The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me(Paul), practice these things, and the God of peace shall be with you”. People--These things are the foundation of the “body of Christ”. You have to have Jesus inside of you in order for Him to come out. Duh!
The Body of Christ Let’s take a look now at Colossians 1:9-10 Vs. 9: “For this reason also, since the day we heard of it we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filledwith the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding”. Do you pray for others? (Giver) Always need prayer just for you? (Taker)
The Body of Christ Vs. 10: “so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God”. • There’s a lot going on in the Body of Christ • It is not of our doing • It comes from the Spirit of God • We must ask, not only for ourselves, but for others
The Body of Christ Colossians 2:6-10 “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude. See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men…
The Body of Christ …according to the elementary principles of the world rather than according to Christ. For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, and in Him you have been made complete and He is the head over all rule and authority…” Read all of Romans 12 sometime and be bolstered in the importance of your individual use in the Body of Christ.
The Body of Christ • Where are YOU in His body? • What’s your function? • What part do you play?
The Body of Christ This is what we usually think of first: Minister—the hands Missionary—the feet Evangelist—the mouth Nope…that’s not all…never meant to be!
The Body of Christ Mother—the HEART Father—the HEAD/PROVIDER Worker—the MUSCLES Child—EYES—see with innocence Cover the nursery—CHEST to rest their heads Someone in Administration—SINEWS, holds it all together Webmaster—TONGUE, to speak
The Body of Christ You get the idea… Each one of us has a specific function to fulfill. Have you sought the Lord, what part of “His Body” He wants you to portray?
So…what are you…giver or taker? We need to comfort one another as we serve one another. Very often God knows our disbelief. He remedies His “un-seen-ness” by the presence of His precious people. When you need HIM most, He often sends His love in the form of one of His people…BE ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE! BE A PART OF THE BODY OF CHRIST…BUT BE A FUNCTIONING PART!
