Study Purpose • Compare Optical Quality Pseudophakic Eyes • Monofocal IOL • Synchrony Dual Optic Accommodating IOL • Parameters • Objective iTrace aberrometry • Custom Matlab Software to calculate MTF • Subjective Contrast Sensitivity Testing • Optec 6500
Study Population • iTrace aberrometry • Cycloplegia • 3 mm zone • Matlab Software to calculate MTF • Monofocal IOL : 15 subjects (30 eyes) • Synchrony IOL : 16 subjects (32 eyes)

Discussion • Dual Optic Design DOES NOT affect optical or retinal image quality of the eye • Objective evidence (iTrace, MTF) • Subjective evidence (CSF) • Contrast sensitivity of Synchrony is equivalent to that of monofocal IOLs
Discussion • Effect of the slight spherical aberration on Synchrony would only yield 0.42 D of increased depth of focus • Calculations based on Rocha’s work * • The improved near vision of Synchrony patients MOST LIKELY due to true accommodation * Rocha KM. Using Adaptive Optics Simultion to Explore the Effect of Higher Order Aberrations on Depth of Focus for the Correction of Presbyopia. Wavefront Congress 2008
Conclusion • Quality of Vision of Synchrony IOL similar to standard monofocal IOLs • Measured Subjectively • Measured Objectively • Improved Near Vision with Synchrony • Not related to increased depth of focus
