“Ohio”By: Neil Young Lyrics • Tin soldiers and Nixon coming,We're finally on our own. This summer I hear the drumming,Four dead in Ohio.Gotta get down to itSoldiers are cutting us downShould have been done long ago. What if you knew herAnd found her dead on the groundHow can you run when you know?Gotta get down to itSoldiers are cutting us downShould have been done long ago. What if you knew herAnd found her dead on the groundHow can you run when you know?Tin soldiers and Nixon coming,We're finally on our own. This summer I hear the drumming,Four dead in Ohio
Summary Of Song • This song is talking about the time period of the Vietnam War, and how 4 students attending Kent University in Ohio were shot and killed for expressing their freedom of speech, by protesting against the War. This massacre was on May 4, 1970. Soldiers were given order to stop the protesting by the president during the time, Nixon. As the shooting began it was as if everyone was on their own. Once the shooting had finished there was a female on the ground holding her dead friend, moping. I believe that this song is asking how could you do that, watch innocent students get killed for expressing their beliefs. Back
