A Little Grammar… • Present Perfect • In English, sometimes when we talk about the past, we use the …present perfect… • Present Perfect • Have • Has + past participle • Past participle – is the 3rd form of a verb, its used in passive situations… Regular Verbs  past participle is ED form Irregular Verbs  past participle is irregular, page A5

A Little Grammar… • Present Perfect • Used to talk about the past, in 3 situations • Indefinite time • Past action where time is not important or mentioned • Number of times • Past action where you mention the frequency • Period of time • Past action within a period of time, using for…or since…

I think you’ll like it.

A Little Vocabulary… • Look at the pictures, What do these mean? • Climb- go up a mountain or thing • Go sightseeing- go see landmarks or “sights” in a city • Go to the top of- go up a building, to the top floor • Try- eat for the first time, or do for the first time • Take a tour of- take a tour of, pretty clear • Take pictures of- take pictures of, again, pretty clear

  25. A Little Vocabulary… • We use all of this with the present perfect to Ask and Talk About actions with visitors… • For example:

  26. Hey Ms El-Hendi, you live in Washington…Have you taken a tour of the White House? As a matter of fact, I haven’t…because I’m too lazy…

  27. Wait a minute…Ms El-Hendi, you have lived in the USA for almost 20 years…Have you ever gone to the top of the Statue of Liberty? Actually… no I haven’t.

  28. But I’m sure you’ve gonesightseeing in New York, right…everybody’s done that…? Um…no I haven’t…

  30. More Grammar…yaaayyyyy… • Notice that with present perfect…we use: • Yetalreadyeverbefore • Do you know what they mean? • Do you know how to use them?

  31. Statements:Use already with positive sentences about things you’ve done. ALREADY • I’ve already tried tajine… • He has already asked me that question…

  32. Statements:Use yet with negative sentences about things you’ve done. YET • I haven’t tried couscous here yet… • He hasn’t bought the coursebook yet… ALREADY • I’ve already tried tangine… • He has already asked me that question…

More Grammar… • Use ever and before in questions about someone’s life experiences… • With ever: • Have you ever traveled outside of Morocco? • Has Ms El-Hendi ever taught us before? • With before : • Have you traveled outside of Morocco before? • Has Ms El-Hendi ever taught us before? NOTICE: You can use them both if you want…

  34. More Grammar… • Use yet at the end of questions about recent experiences (not life experiences) • For Example: • Have you been to Rabat yet? • Has Ms El-Hendi visited Zagora yet? • Have Ms. El-Hendi and her friends been to the Kasbah in Ouarzazate yet?

  35. Some Listening… • Last Thing, look a the picture, what do you think we’re going to listen to • Look at the Chart carefully • While you listen, think about your own answers • Do Exercise B

  36. Some Pronunciation… • With the Present Perfect in the Negative: • Americans usually don’t say the “/t/” sound, so: • I haven’t been to Meknes yet. becomes • I havenn been to Meknes yet. PRACTICE - Tell me 3 things you haven’t done yet…
