Physical Appearance Many things can describe what an Ankylosaurus looks like. Ankylosaurus was a huge armored dinosaur measuring about 25-35 feet long,6 feet wide, and 4 feet tall. In height the Ankylosaurus is up to Mrs. Troth’s neck! The Ankylosaurus weighted roughly 3-4 tons. Compared to some big dinosaurs the Ankylosaurus doesn’t weigh a lot. It’s entire topside was heavily protected from carnivores by thick oval plates embedded in it’s leathery skin and 2 rows of spikes along it’s body. As you can see the Ankylosaurus was very protected. Clearly the Ankylosaurus was a small, stubby , plant eating dinosaur.

Hunting and Eating Habits The Ankylosaurus has many facts about it’s diet. This huge extremely heavy reptile was a herbivore. It would only eat vegetables. Next, it had to eat a huge amount of low –lying plants to sustain itself. It’s gut must have been very large to be able to eat that much food. In addition, it probably had a fermentation compartment to aid the digestion of the rough plant material, producing prodigious amounts of gas! I’ve never heard of a dinosaur that producesgas. Compared to meat eaters, the Ankylosaurus has a very small menu of things to eat.

Other Interesting Facts I have a few interestingfacts about the Ankylosaurus. Flipping the Ankylosaurus over was the only way to wound it. If flipping it over was the only way to wound it, it must have had a lot of armor. It’s under belly was un platted. That means it had no armor on its belly. Among it’s contemporaries were the large meat-eating Tyrannosaurus , Tarbosaurus , and the Deinoychus. That must mean those are it’s predator's. As you can see the Ankylosaurus doesn’t have armor in some places.
