  5. Population Crisis • Tigers are an endangered species. At one time there was hundreds of thousands of tigers, but today there are only about 18,000. • There are only about 15,000 left I captivity. • There are only about 3,000 left living in the wild.

  6. Hunting • Some people hunt tigers as trophy animals or big game. • It is a Chinese tradition to use tigers for medicine. • Poachers can sell tigers for as much as $50,000.

  7. Loss Of Habitat • Logging companies cut down trees in forests where tigers live. • In China some people hunt the same animals as the tigers. This makes it so the tigers have to move to find their prey. • Villagers use the surrounding forests for firewood and grazing land.

  9. Diet • Their diet mostly consists of deer and wild boar. They also eat: • -antelope • -buffalo • -monkeys • -fish • -crab • And other animals.

  10. Young • Litters 1-6 cubs. • Born with their eyes shut. • They open their eyes after one week. • Nursed by mother tiger for about 4 months.
