MA EducationThe Educational Practitioner in the Role of Mentor Target Audience: Participants in the coaching and mentoring process within educational settings This module provides an ideal forum for critical self-evaluation in terms of participants’ own professional practice. Whilst the majority of students join the module from educational backgrounds, the module offers a wider inter-professional appeal, drawing interest from health, nursing, business and law. The module provides strong personal and professional development for all those interested in becoming effective, reflective practitioners. Objectives : The course will explore interpersonal communication and emotional intelligence alongside mentoring and coaching in the workplace. Based on their own experience, participants will be required to develop and evaluate those skills and the further development of their mentees as communicators. They will be required to observe mentees in workplace situations, and evaluate the effectiveness of mentoring and coaching strategies adopted in the workplace. Teaching Methods: Taught sessions Directed activities Guided research/reflection Email and face-to-face tutorials Assessment: Participants will use their own experiences and contexts and be encouraged to critically reflect on their own practice and disseminate their work to colleagues. Tutorials and e mail support will be available before, during and after the module from University tutors.
