Slidehood.com What is I.V Cannulation? Intravenous IV Cannulation is a technique where a cannula is inserted inside a vein to provide venous access. The venous access allows sampling of blood, as well as administration of fluids, medications, parenteral nutrition, chemotherapy, and other blood products. Piercing the skin with a needle can cause great pain to the patient. So, it is very essential to find the appropriate place where the pain can be minimized. It also depends upon the patient as well, for example, if a patient is 10-12 years old, he or she will face a tremendous amount of pain. Whereas a person who is 20-23 years old will feel some pain or mild pain.
Safety I.V Cannula. Safety IV Cannula has its unique valve design that acts as a barrier to prohibit exposure during the venipuncture. This design helps in preventing blood from getting on the caregivers' gloves or clothing or bedding and dressings. Apart from this, another benefit of safety IV cannula is that it also offers safety from needle-sticks injuries which can be extremely harmful to the nursing staff during the withdrawal of the needle from the hub.
