CISLL Mission • CISLL is an interdisciplinary center for the study of lifespan language and literacy across diverse populations and contexts, both regionally and globally, with the commitment to: • Engage in basic and applied research in language and literacy. • Develop and apply innovative research and assessment methodologies to address complex issues • Identified and promote best practices in language and literacy. • Provide evidence-based outreach that generates results.

Methodology Strand Chair • We are grateful to Janet Holt for her years of service to CISLL as the Methodology strand chair. • She was instrumental in helping establish CISLL as a center. • We are pleased to announce that Laura Ruth Johnson has accepted our invitation to become the new Methodology strand chair.

Continued Funding for CISLL • Funding renewed by Strategic Planning for fiscal years 2012, 2013, and 2014 • As a result, CISLL was able to: • Expand the 2nd GA position • Increase student funding opportunities
CISLL Funding Opportunities • Faculty Proposal or Pilot (PoP) Grants • Purpose: To fund the collection of pilot data associated with a future proposal or the writing of a proposal • Student PoP Grants • Purpose: To fund a student research that is preliminary work for a major project (thesis, dissertation, programmatic research) • CISLL Outstanding Student Scholar Award (COSSA) • Purpose: To acknowledge the contributions of an outstanding student to CISLL • Student Research Fellowship Award (SRFA) • Purpose: To fund a student mentored research project that fits within the mission of CISLL

CISLL as Interdisciplinary Unit • CISLL can be designated as an interdisciplinary unit on your grant proposal. • 10% of indirect costs go to CISLL • These funds are used to support funding opportunities and affiliate research support and in no way compromise the amount that goes to your department. • In return, you have access to: • Strand Chair Expertise • GA support for development and implementation • Use network to identify collaborators • Methodology workshops
