Description • U-BOAT stands for Unterseeboot (Under sea boat). • It refers to military submarines operated by Germans. • They were the most effectively used in economic warfare. • Forcing a naval blockade against enemy ships. • It was used to brings supplies from the British empire and the United States to Great Britain.
FIRST HIT • On September 5, 1914 the U-BOAT, underestimated for its time, made its first attack. • The SM U 21 hit the British cruiser HMS Pathfinder. • There was a heavy loss of life, and the cruiser sank within minutes.
Commanders • The commander of the German U-boat SM U 21 was Otto Hersing, and he remained as so for 3 years. • Otto Hersing is just 1 of 1400 Commanders of U boats all over.
