Group Activity :2 Labour Law Challenges Faced By Your Unions at National Level Group : Mira,Tau,Parvin,Chaudhary,Sylvia Team Leader : Mitra Reporter : Parvin 1) Are there any specific laws, regulations or provisions to be changed, as a matter of Country :priority, in order to improve the legal protection for workers. 1) Nepal : No Law for Maternity Leave No Law for Child Labour 2) Samoa : No Law For Collective Bargaining No Law for Redundancy 3) Iran : No Law for Collective Bargaining Not enough Law for Contract Labour 4) Pakistan : Not enough law for OSH Not enough law for Collective Bargaining 5) Singapore : Stronger Enforcement on OSH Stronger Enforcement on Transfer of Employment Limited Representation by rank and file union for Executives Stronger bargaining for Contract Workers
Group Activity :2 2) Are there any specific laws, regulations or provisions already providing good protection for workers, but being attacked /threatened by possible legal reforms 1) Nepal : Freedom of Association (but no implemented properly) Noz very tense political situation led to suspension of law 2) Samoa : Maternity Protection (currently 2 months for Public Sector) The government is proposing to change 3) Iran : Law on contract labour Government is changing the law for the employers benefits 4) Pakistan : Laws are there but not implemented 5) Singapore : Law on Transfer of Employment (but not on Outsourcing) Provision on Retrenchment (employer propose to change)

Which enforcement should be improvedas a matter of priority. 1) Nepal : Law on Conditions of Work difficult to implement Especially in the private setor Leading toJob insecurity 2) Samoa : Passed OSH Bill in 2002 to extend the coverage to public sector but no regulation to enforce the bill Not OSH law for the public sector 3) Iran : No regulation on OSH on private sector because of contractors 4) Pakistan : Laws on OSH are there but not implemented 5) Singapore : Discrimination of Workers - Code of Conduct ( old workers , HIV) - OSH – More enforcement
