Howell Place KEY INVESTMENT HIGHLIGHTS • Baton Rouge, the state capital, has become the largest city in Louisiana due to individuals and businesses relocating following Hurricane Katrina, the worst natural disaster in U.S. history. • Pre-Katrina MSA population of 722,646 (70th largest) has increased by approximately 400,000 temporary residents and it is estimated that 40% remained in Baton Rouge. • Port of Baton Rouge ranks 9th in the nation in waterborne commerce and is the farthest inland deep-water port on the Mississippi River and Gulf of Mexico. • Baton Rouge has the largest concentration of petrochemical industry in the state with 62 plants and 10,000 workers. Exxon/Mobil is the 2nd largest refinery in the U.S. and 9th worldwide.

  7. Howell Place • The 131-room Hilton Garden Inn is Baton Rouge’s first full-service airport hotel. Pre-Katrina, the hotel was averaging a weekly occupancy rate of 80%. Post-Katrina, the hotel has maintained 90%+ occupancy.

Howell Place • A 290,000 square-foot tract in Howell Place is home to the $23 million Greater Baton Rouge Surgical Hospital, which includes a surgical hospital, two medical office buildings and 995 parking spaces. The hospital is believed to be the nation’s first surgical-specialty hospital developed by a predominantly African-American physician group.

  10. Howell Place • Directly across from Howell Place on Harding is a $50 million city-parish telecommunications center. • The city also plans to spend $38 million to move police HQ and EMS to the complex.

  11. Howell Place A Louisiana State Public Safety Training Complex is located across the street from Howell Place. Federal and state public officials plan to promote the project as a multifaceted training campus serving states along the Gulf of Mexico.
