  1. Aufwӓrmung • Take a card from me. It indicates your present state of mind. • Take out your homework and leave it on your desks. I will come by and check for it. • Go up to 5 classmates. Greet them (in German!). Ask each of them (IN GERMAN!) how they are doing. They will answer, using the word on their card. • They will then ask you how YOU are doing. You must answer, using the cue on your card. • When you have talked to 5 classmates, setzt dich!

  15. German uses 4 other letters as well. You may or may not choose to use them, as there have substitutes for each of them.

  16. Äӓ = ay/eh, depending on how you use it. Pretty much the same as German ‘e:’ head/Gӓste • the dots over the letters are called an “Umlaut.” • They indicate a change in the sound of the vowel. • If you don’t want to write your words with an Umlaut, simply write an ‘e’ after the letter. • Beispiel: Gӓste = Gaeste

  17. Beispiele: • Äpfel • Maedchen • Kӓfer • Baer

  18. Öö = uh/eu, similar to Blur/hören This sound is closer to French than it is to English

  19. Üü= a vowel sound we don’t have in English! It is closest to a combination of the sounds “ee” and “ew”

  20. Beispiele: • Tür • Kueche • hübsch • luegen
