Top Tips • Keep it relevant (Tailor it to the job) • Keep it professional • Structure it well • Don’t lie • Tell employer about yourself, your passions and hobbies; add personality to your CV • A good cover letter is a must
Cover letter • Should go with every CV • A great chance to sell yourself and stand out • Should explain why you want to work for that company • How can company benefit from hiring you? What skills and traits can you bring to the table?
Education on your cv • Needs to be included on every CV • Only relevant grades are required – GCSE: Maths, English and Science • Include any qualification that may be relevant to the job • Always include your current education level, with your predicted grade
Personal skills and interests • Your chance to show case yourself! • Sports • Musical instruments • extra curriculum activities – DoE, Young enterprise, etc • Work Experience comes under your personal skills • Focus more on the skills you learn from the job rather than duties involved
References • A lot of employers expect them (especially online applications) • Ensure that they are accurate and done by a non-family person (again, no lying) • Can be easily obtained – your teachers, tutors, employers etc.
