  1. BUILT ENVIRONMENT COURSETECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT LESSON – (5)

  2. LESSON – (5) Basic Rules For Architectural Drafting Lines For Architectural Drafting B. Architectural & Rules Of Dimension C. Common Sizes For Architectural Feature

  3. What is Architectural Drafting An architectural drafting is a technical drawing of a building that falls within the definition of Architecture. A technical drawings required common discipline of composing drawings that visually communicate how something functions or is constructed.

  4. A. Architectural Dimension Dimension show the builder the width and the length of the building. Dimensioning architectural drawings differ from dimensioning mechanical drawings in many ways. The Dimensioning system most commonly used in architectural drafting is known as Aligned Dimensioning. With this system, dimensions are placed in line with the dimension lines are read from the bottom or right side of the sheet. Dimension numerals are centered on and placed above the solid dimension lines.

  5. EXAMPLE (1) – Dimensional Plan

  6. EXAMPLE (2) – Dimensional Plan

  7. B. Rules For Dimensioning

  8. Example – 3 Dimension Line Approx. 3 t0 4 mm protrusion from the horizontal line. Equal space 12 mm minimum. Interior extension lines to the width of the external window frame. (Brick wall opening) Exterior extension line assume to outside face the wall. Space depends upon available room (room refer paper size) Vertical dimension line keep 1.5 to 2 mm away from the wall. Rule Of Dimension Lines

  9. Example – 4 Door location 150 mm minimum away from wall Open Arrowheads Slash Lines Triangle Head Minimum Distance Door To Wall Assumed Door Centered in Hall-way Assumed Circles Or Dots When there is no space for dimensional lines, Leader line curved freehand or irregular curve, or straight. Center at beginning or end of note. Terminate with arrowhead. Different Styles Of Arrowheads Rule Of Dimension Lines 900 mm shower compartment

  30. Summary – Architecture Drawing Drawings must be completely dimensioned to ensure that the house will be constructed precisely as designed. Many construction mistakes result from errors in architectural drawing, and most of those error are in Dimensioning! One of the best ways to learn how experienced drafters layout dimensions is to study and evaluate existing plan.
