Objectives The student will: • Understand 3D in Photoshop • Know how to wrap an image around an object • Know how to adjust the light shining on a 3D object
3D Images in Photoshop • Photoshop has a number of built in 3D objects • Photoshop can also import 3D images from: • Collada (.dae) • 3D Studio (.3ds) • Wavefront (.obj) • Ultimate3D (.u3d) • Google Earth (.kmz)
Wrapping a Layer Around a 3D Image • In order to create a 3D object, all layers you want to wrap around the object must be converted to a single layer. You can either: • Flatten the image • Convert all layers to a single smart layer
Wrapping a Layer Around a 3D Image • Once a layer is selected then apply it to a shape by 3D > New shape From Layer • The image will be converted into the shape selected Denotes a 3D layer
Adjusting the Lighting • Double click on the 3D layer icon • Choose a light • Change the angle of the light • Change the brightness

Summary • 3D tools allow you to take a layer and convert into a 3D object. • Photoshop has a number of built in 3D shapes (including 3D postcard).
